12/18/24; The Flower Peddler

 See the Original post here

So, I love shops. I love flowers. I love unique NPC's. So I combined them into one thing.

This is actually an idea I had a few years ago, but the vendor wasn't selling flowers, they were selling trinkets. My players were like "Yeah! What's he got?" and me, thinking they were going to just pass this dude up, had absolutely nothing to show for it. so I made shit up on the spot, which wasn't very good.

As well as the above mentioned things, I love creating unique and random tables with multiple dice. It adds more mystery to the items when the DM rolls three separate dice. Even though this is very low steaks, it can still be exciting.

That's all I got for you this week. Join me next week when I take on a bear with my bare hands!

12/11/24; Transformative Dice

 See the original post here!

 Transformative Dice

This came from an item in BoneLab called the Avatar Dice, which will change your character model to a generic NPC model. The only bad part about that item is that you can't change what avatar you can get.

I thought I'd change that, and give the player some more control.

This item is meant to be useless until the player goes to a wizard, or a wizard is within the party. Of course, the DM can change this, but that's up to them.

This also gives non-druid, non-magical characters a chance to use wild shape or polymorph as a battle tactic, although random.

12/4/2024; Head that's always screaming

Check out the original post here.

The story of the Head That's Always Screaming didn't come from Gravity Falls, weirdly enough.

Back when I had started my homebrew journey around 2015 (I got more serious in college a few years later), I had this concept that had no real idea or identity. It was just a head that was always screaming, making the party visible and being annoying. I kind of had the idea based on Lollipop Chainsaw, which is a game I never played. Basically, the main character had to kill zombies with a chainsaw, and she had to chop off her boyfriends head with the chainsaw and attached it to her skirt.

I thought the idea would work for this. Every time a character would try to throw the head out, it would slowly float back to them. That added some creepiness to it, but it didn't feel right. Then I thought, 'this head was meant to torture the enemy, so it would magically be able to appear where it needed to be in order to torment the enemy.' After the enemy died, the head continued to scream and could then be attached to a new host.

I feel like this was a better interpretation of the item as opposed to a pointless item that no one can get rid of. It's also very fun to say "Here. Have a head that's always screaming"

The Tarot series

Tarot is the practice of using a deck of 78 cards for divination. This does not necessarily mean they can tell the future, but are merely a communication tool for guidance as you go through your life.

The Major Arcana follow the Fool (Number 0 or 1 depending on the deck used) and the 21 that come after it are considered the "Fool's Journey", starting as an innocent child who then grows to an actualized adult. These cards are considered major life events or obstacles the Fool will face.

The Minor Arcana are divided into suits; coins (or pentacles), cups, swords, and wands. These represent smaller life events the Fool may encounter.

As I learn more about Tarot, the more I'm enjoying it. And since everything within the deck is meant to be interpreted differently, many artists have done their own interpretations of what the cards may mean, as well as the symbols to represent the suits. I thought I'd take a crack at it by making a Tarot deck useful in games. I encourage others as well to come up with their own interpretations of the cards.

Much like with the usual postings, these can be NPC's, locations, weapons, etc. and will be noted as such.

I hope you enjoy using these in your games, and come back with a greater understanding of Tarot.

11/27/24; Sir Aaron

Read the original posting here!

Today's post was about an NPC, Sir Aaron. Here's the story behind him.

Over the summer, I had to be hospitalized for self-harm reasons. While in the hospital, I met many amazing, wonderful, soulful people. One of those people was a dude named Aaron. Aaron is a very successful man, a very kind soul, and someone who I grew to appreciate as his time to leave got closer. When we first met, I was wearing an Animal Crossing sweatshirt, and he told me about how his daughter loves to play the game. We had talked about Dungeons and Dragons as well as other RPG's and I revealed to him that I'm a dungeon master. His one question to me was how I felt about the races in DnD, and how racial traits are kind of racist. Me, being white, never put any true thought into this, and it helped me open my mind a little more. We had gotten into a logical and rather civil conversation about it. It was lovely having a decent conversation about role playing games and how they affect people. Especially a man talking to a woman.

Anyway, one lunch time, Aaron and I got to talking and I told him that I homebrew. Eventually we got to the point where I had made him into an NPC, using inspiration from his life; His daughter loves Eevee from the Pokemon series, and I know of the Talking Stones, so I thought it'd be a sweet idea if he had customized the stones so that they would light up when either person was thinking about the other or touching their stone. The lit up parts would also be warm to the touch, because it's adorable and if you disagree, you are wrong.

Overall, he was an amazing man that I had met in my brief time within the mental hospital, and I doubt I'll meet another like him. Aaron, if you're reading this, I hope you're doing well, and I hope we can play together some time, either IRL or online. My line is always open.

To my readers, let me know if you use Aaron in your story! I'd love to see how my characters are used, and how I can improve writing them.

Thank you for reading.
